    Overview

2048gb is a Game Boy port of the game 2048, or, more precisely, a clone, written in assembly by Sanqui (Sanky). The tile graphics were made by beware, of bgb fame.

The original is a browser game created by Gabriele Cirulli, based on 1024 by Veewo Studio and conceptually similar to Threes by Asher Vollmer. Its instructions still apply: join the numbers and get to the 2048 tile. Use the arrow keys (here the D-pad) to move the tiles, and when two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one.

    Tips

    1. A direction that would not move or merge anything is ignored and does not add a tile, so you can never waste a turn by pressing the wrong way, but you also cannot pass.
    2. A tile can only merge once per move: a row of 2, 2, 2, 2 slid sideways becomes 4, 4, not 8. Plan two moves ahead when lining up chains.
    3. Nine new tiles in ten are 2s and they land on a random empty square, so keep your big tiles packed along one edge and leave the open space on the other side.
    4. After reaching 2048 press Select instead of A to carry on with the same board and score; the win screen will not appear again for that game.
    5. Pressing a direction while tiles are still sliding cuts the animation short, which makes fast play much smoother.
