    Overview

GB-Wordyl is a Wordle clone for the Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color by bbbbbr. It is a mostly re-written and greatly expanded fork of the original Game Boy version by stacksmashing, adding a full dictionary in place of the original's bloom filter, thousands more solution words, multiple dictionary languages, Game Boy Color support and many other features.

The objective is to guess the hidden word within 6 tries. Each guess reveals clues about whether its letters are part of the hidden word. The English version carries the full official answer word list and dictionary, less a couple of cringy words, around 12,900 words in all, packed into a 32K ROM.

Extras include game stats (won, lost and streak), a hard mode in which all revealed letter clues must be used in the next guess, and an auto-fill option that fills in letters already matched in their right place.

    Tips

    1. A guess that is too short or not in the dictionary is turned away with a message and does not use up one of your six tries, so feel free to test a hunch.
    2. Hard mode only checks your new guess against the clues from the guess just before it, and it can only be switched at the start of a round, before anything has been submitted.
    3. With auto-fill on, use Select + A to hop the board cursor over the letters it typed in, and fill only the gaps.
    4. The keyboard cursor wraps around, so Left from Q jumps straight to P and Up from the top row goes to the bottom row; that is often quicker than crossing the whole keyboard.
    5. Forfeit round on the options menu shows you the answer, but counts the round as a loss and breaks your streak.
