    Overview

Facets is a gem-matching puzzle on an 8 by 8 board. Swap any two neighbouring gems so that three or more of one colour line up across or down; they shatter, the gems above drop into the gap and new ones fall in from the top. A swap that lines nothing up slides back. When the falling gems line up by themselves, that is a chain, and every step of a chain scores more than the last.

Each colour has its own cut, so the board reads by shape as well as colour. Lining up more than three leaves a special gem behind: a bomb for four in a line, a cross where two lines meet, and a prism for five in a line. Before each game you pick a mode (Classic, 2 minutes or 30 moves), one of three themes and whether hints appear; each mode has its own scoreboard.

    Special gems

    Bomb
Four in a line. When it is cleared, it clears the 3 by 3 square around it
    Cross
Two lines of a colour meeting in an L or a T. Clears its whole row and column
    Prism
Five in a line. Swap it with any gem to clear every gem of that colour; two prisms swapped together clear the board
    Set off
A special gem caught in another one's blast goes off too

    Modes

    Classic
No clock. Every 1000 points (a little more each level) is a level, and points are multiplied by the level. With no swap left, the board reshuffles up to three times; after that the game ends
    2 minutes
As many points as you can before the clock runs out. A board with no swap left reshuffles
    30 moves
Thirty swaps that line something up; swaps that slide back are free

    Points

    3 in a line
    50
    4
    100
    5 or more
150, plus 50 for each gem over five
    Blast
20 for each gem a special gem clears
    Chain
Each drop that lines up again multiplies its points by one more

    Tips

    1. Work from the bottom of the board when you can: clearing low gems makes everything above them fall, which is where chains come from.
    2. Before you take the first match you see, look for a swap that makes four in a line or two crossing lines. One special gem is worth several plain matches.
    3. Keep a prism for when the board is short of moves, or swap it with the colour that covers most of the board.
    4. In 30 moves, a swap that slides back costs nothing, so it is safe to test a move you are unsure of.
