    Overview

Catacombs of the damned! is a first person shooter and dungeon crawler for the Arduboy where you navigate 10 floors of a randomly generated dungeon, dispatching monsters with your magic fireballs whilst collecting as much loot as possible. It was partly inspired by the Catacomb 3D series of games.

James Howard lists its features as smooth 3D gameplay, sound effects, randomly generated levels, four different types of monsters and lots of loot to collect.

The game grew out of a 3D rendering demo whose development history is written up on the Arduboy community forum.

    Tips

    1. Each floor starts you in the top-left corner and puts the exit stairs near the bottom-right one, so head that way when you want to move on quickly.
    2. Loot is only placed in dead ends, never close to the entrance or exit. Poking into side passages is how you find chests, crowns, scrolls and coins.
    3. A fireball costs 20 of your 100 mana and mana only refills while you are not firing. Five quick shots will empty you, so pause between volleys against a knight, which takes five hits.
    4. Monsters stagger when hit. Knights and mages are briefly stunned by each fireball, so keep firing steadily to stop them closing in, while bats and spiders shrug it off.
    5. Strafing with A held lets you step out from a corner, fire and step back without turning. It is the safest way to deal with mages, whose shots travel down corridors.
    6. Potions are only drunk when you are hurt, so if you are at full health it is worth remembering where one lies and coming back for it.
