    Overview

Escape Obliterizer Deluxe is an original Game Boy Color game based on an existing web game, Escape Obliterizer. You play as Del, a green square who must avoid getting obliterized by incoming hazards. The objective is to survive as long as you can!

The original web game was designed and developed by Marco Santos, Eduardo Rodrigues and João Matias Godinho, and Godinho ported it to the Game Boy Color in 2019. He wrote it in C with GBDK, his first contact with the C language and Game Boy programming. The best score is kept in the cartridge's battery-backed memory.

    Hazards

    Vertical laser
A thin red line marks the left, centre or right column, then a laser fires down it
    Horizontal laser
From 500 points: a red line marks the top, middle or bottom row, then a gun shoots along it
    Bomb
From 1000 points: a ring marks the left or right square, then it explodes

    Scoring and stun

    Standing still
    About 30 points a second
    Holding a direction
    About four times as many
    Stun
Holding one direction for about 2 seconds stuns Del in the centre for about 2.5 seconds
    Stun bar
The bar over Del fills while you hold; switching direction empties it
    Speed
Warnings get shorter at 1500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 points, and from 5000 hazards stop pausing

    Tips

    1. A centre-column laser and a middle-row laser are never marked together, so at least one way out of the centre stays open from those two lines.
    2. Only the left and right squares can be bombed. Up and down are always safe from bombs.
    3. Dodging is also how you score fast, so keep moving between squares rather than waiting in the centre; swapping direction every second or so keeps the stun bar empty.
    4. A stunned Del sits in the centre, in reach of both centre-column and middle-row lasers, so a stun late in a run is often the end.
    5. A hit counts only when the laser or bomb goes off, not while the warning shows, so you can wait for the last moment to dodge.

    Skins

On the main menu, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A. A skin screen opens instead of the game: Left and Right choose between Game Boy, Classic, Delloween and Zipper, A keeps the one shown and B goes back to the default. The credits page hints at the code.
