    Overview

Squishy the Turtle is a puzzle game written for the Game Boy, created in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 34 competition. You play as a turtle who must collect his eggs while avoiding the spiders and crabs covering the landscape.

Squishy has a special power: he is able to grow and shrink at will, and some places can only be reached in one form or the other. The rivers are infested with piranhas, so Squishy must be big when crossing them to avoid piranha bites. Likewise, there are tiny spaces, like the portals, that the big, slow form of Squishy cannot fit through.

Spiders are afraid of the big Squishy, but crabs seek after him for food. Can you collect all of the eggs and get to safety?

    Tips

    1. The status bar shows eggs collected against the eggs needed. The portal only starts animating once you have them all, and you must be small and fully inside its tile to warp.
    2. Choose your size by who is in the room: shrink when crabs are around and grow when spiders are, since each kind backs away from one form and hunts the other.
    3. Enemies only pick a new direction about once a second, and sometimes they simply stop, so wait for an opening rather than rushing past them.
    4. Being hit pushes you back the way you came and gives a short moment of safety; use it to get clear rather than walking straight back into the enemy.
    5. Each level spreads over several screens, so walk off the edges to explore. Eggs you have already picked up stay gone when you come back to a screen.
    6. Grow before you reach a river, and never shrink halfway across: the moment small Squishy moves in the water the piranhas bite and push him back.
