    Overview

Bump! is a puzzle endless runner about smashing your head into rocks for score. Aaron Steed made it for the Seven Day Roguelike Challenge in 2013.

Nitrome, where Steed worked as one of their Flash programmers, introduced it as an interestingly fresh concept: a turn based platformer with randomly generated levels. Roguelike Radio's round-up of that year's entries summed it up as a turn-based platformer with terrain destruction.

The goal is the highest score you can reach by bumping into things without dying. Every move is a turn, and the run ends when you touch something dangerous, fall off the bottom of the screen or run out of time.

    Score

    Special block
500 when you bump it from below; it turns to metal
    Coin
100 when you bump the block under it
    Enemy
200 when you bump the block under it
    Bomb block
Explodes when bumped: 10 for each square in the blast, chaining through other bombs

    Dangers

    Enemy
Walking into one, or one walking into you, is fatal
    Coin
Landing on one, or being under a falling one, is fatal
    Bottom edge
Falling off the screen ends the run
    Time
400 turns per run, then time out
    Screen
Only scrolls forward; you cannot walk back past its left edge

    Tips

    1. Coins are not collected by touch. Get under the block a coin or an enemy is standing on and jump into it: the bump flips them off for points.
    2. A bump travels up through a whole stack of blocks, so hitting the bottom of a column can flip a coin or enemy resting several blocks higher.
    3. Special blocks are worth 500, five times a coin, and each one pays only once before it turns to metal.
    4. Enemies only start appearing on the third stretch of level and bomb blocks on the fifth, so bank easy points early while the going is safe.
    5. The run is capped at 400 turns, so every step spent waiting costs you; plan routes that bump something on the way forward.
