    Overview

Every run of Ember Pixel Dungeon is a new descent through a dungeon built at random: the layouts, room types, items, traps and enemies change from game to game. Six heroes play in their own ways. The Warrior and the Duelist cut foes down up close, the Mage and the Cleric burn them with arcane or divine power, and the Rogue and the Huntress use stealth, terrain and range.

As you go deeper you earn talent points, pick a subclass and later unlock a powerful ability, so a Duelist can become a dual-wielding Champion or a Huntress a Sniper. Equipment can be enchanted, upgraded and augmented, and wands, rings, artifacts and trinkets add damage, defence or other help. Consumables are found or crafted through alchemy.

Five regions and 26 floors stand between you and the bottom, from hostile wildlife in the sewers and caves to thieves and guards in the prison and occult servants in a fallen dwarven city, with worse further down and ten bosses on the way. You will probably not win on your first try, but there are tricks and strategies to learn, and after a first win there are challenges and achievements to chase.

The game is Shattered Pixel Dungeon by Evan Debenham. It began in 2014 as a rebalance of Watabou's Pixel Dungeon, first released in 2012, and grew into a game of its own; this version runs under a different name, as its author asks of other versions.
