    Overview

Taisei Project is an open source fan-game set in the world of Tōhō Project. It is a top-down vertical-scrolling curtain fire shooting game (STG), also known as a “bullet hell” or “danmaku.” STGs are fast-paced games focused around pattern recognition and mastery through practice.

Taisei is a shoot-em-up game. Lots of bullets cover the screen and if you are hit by one, you die. To make things easier, your hitbox is very small, much smaller than your character.

If you get hit you lose a life; if you are out of lives, it’s Game Over, but you get a few Continues to keep playing (without scores). Taisei has 6 levels (called stages). Each stage has a boss and a midboss in some form.

    Tips

    1. Start on Easy. It is balanced around maybe being not impossible for newcomers, and it still shows the beauty of all the patterns.
    2. Only the small dot at your character's centre gets hit. Hold Shift near dense patterns to see it and to dodge in small steps, but don't stay focused all the time.
    3. If you fly near the top of the screen, every item on screen flies to you and counts as collected at the top.
    4. Bomb when you are in a pinch: it clears bullets and hits enemies hard. If you get hit and bomb fast enough, you can avoid death.
    5. Capturing a boss's Spell Card (taking down its HP in time without getting hit or bombing) gives extra points and 100 bomb fragments.
    6. Points also earn extra lives, so score matters even on Easy. Power Surges raise your point value the most.
    7. Practise the stages and Spell Cards you keep dying on from Stage Practice and Spell Practice on the title screen.
    8. Finish the story without using a continue to see your character's good ending.
