    Overview

Flipside is played on a square board by two colours, dark and light, with dark moving first. Each move places one disc so that it closes at least one straight line of the other colour between the new disc and one already on the board, across, down or diagonally. Every disc in those lines turns over to the mover's colour.

A player with no such move passes, and the game ends when neither side can move. The colour with more discs on the board wins. Play the computer at one of three strengths, or a friend on the same screen, on a 6 by 6, 8 by 8 or 10 by 10 board.

    Tips

    1. Corners can never be turned over, and a disc on the edge next to a corner owned by you is just as safe. Aim for the corners first.
    2. Avoid the square diagonally next to an empty corner: it usually hands that corner to the other side.
    3. Having many discs early matters less than having many moves. A position where the other side has few legal squares often forces it into a bad one.
    4. On Hard the computer plays the last nine or so squares perfectly, so try to settle the edges before the end.
