    Overview

Pixel Conflict is a turn based game with pixel style about the battlefield. You play the green team while the AI plays the red team. There are several levels, and each level has its own objective: capture a certain tile before a number of turns run out, destroy all units, and so on.

Aldy Ahsandin developed every element of the game, from the art and animation to the code, using the Starling framework and Adobe AIR. It was designed with mobile in mind, which is why the interface is touch friendly, but it was published on the web.

The AI was first built with an adaptive neural network and an influence map, then changed to a finite state machine so that its behaviour could be controlled by hand when designing levels.

    Tips

    1. Damage is scaled by the attacker's remaining health, so a wounded unit hits for less. Strike first with healthy units and let the enemy's counter-attack come from a weakened one.
    2. Terrain cover divides incoming damage: buildings and base camps give infantry 90% cover, hills 70% and forest 50%, while roads, swamp and rivers leave them worse off than open ground.
    3. Each unit gets one action per turn, either a move or an attack, so think about where it will stand before you attack.
    4. Artillery attacks from range and takes no direct counter-attack, but it is fragile; keep it behind your front line.
    5. In missions that allow it, capturing the enemy basecamp forces them to withdraw, which is often faster than hunting down every unit before the time counter runs out.
