    Overview

Metal Warrior 4: Agents of Metal is a side-view action adventure by Lasse Öörni of Covert Bitops, first made for the Commodore 64 and converted by him to the Game Boy Advance in 2006. Three weeks after the events of Metal Warrior 3, Ian Smith and Joan Alder, known as Phantasm, stand at the gates of a deserted farm. They were called there by a phone call of ominous pig grunts and squeals and the voice of the bassist Lord Obskurius, and before long Ian is initiated into the Agents of Metal.

You play Ian. You walk and climb through the levels, talk to people, search closets, carry weapons and supplies up to a weight limit, and pick your next destination on a map. Enemies notice you by sight and by sound, so sneaking, waiting for things to calm down and hitting from behind all help, and an enemy defeated without being killed is worth double points. There are 21 weapons besides your fists.

The opening explains who Ian, Phantasm, Goat and the band Cyberpriest are, so you can start here without having played the first three games. On the Game Boy Advance the original 6502 game code runs on a small CPU and SID sound emulator written for it, while the GBA side draws the graphics and loads the levels.

    Tips

    1. Fists, the baton, the dart gun and the stun gun don't kill, and a non-lethal takedown scores double.
    2. Hit guards from behind: surprise attacks get a damage bonus, and a baton can drop a guard in one blow.
    3. Reload before a fight with B + Down or L instead of in the middle of one.
    4. Dart wounds keep draining health through your armor and make you flash; a first aid kit stops it.
    5. Picking up every gun fills your weight limit fast; check Status for what you carry and drop what you don't use.
    6. Turn the music off in the Game menu to hear more sound effects, footsteps included.
    7. A new game overwrites the autosave, so save to a numbered slot as well.
    8. To return to an enemy installation from the map, first find and use its exit at ground level.
