    Overview

Tobu Tobu Girl is an arcade platformer for the Game Boy by Tangram Games, and Tobu Tobu Girl Deluxe is its dual GB/GBC remaster, adding full-color graphics while staying playable on the original Game Boy and the Super Game Boy.

Your job is to rescue a cat that has floated off into the sky. Tobu climbs by bouncing off the creatures below her: she can dash in eight directions as well as flap her arms to boost upwards. The dash can be used three times in succession but is only replenished when she lands on something, and boost energy is topped up by dashing downwards onto enemies to defeat them.

A strict time limit applies to every climb, though lives are unlimited, so the challenge is in learning each stage well enough to reach the top fast. The music is by potato-tan.

    Tips

    1. Landing on any enemy, even without dashing, refills all three dashes, so chain bounces from bat to bird and save dashes for gaps you cannot reach by bouncing.
    2. Only a downward dash (A + Down) destroys an enemy, and each one destroyed this way adds a quarter of the boost meter and a point to your score. Stomp whenever it is on your way up.
    3. Release A early to cut a dash short once it has run for half its length. A short sideways dash is handy for lining up above the next enemy without overshooting.
    4. The timer starts at 32 and the clocks never push it higher, so grab them when the meter is low rather than detouring for one when it is nearly full.
    5. Your rank depends mostly on speed: every second saved is worth three stomps, so the fastest route to the portal beats hunting enemies.
    6. In Heaven every fifth wave is a special one: only aliens, only ghosts, an auto-scrolling climb, a short timer, double spikes, or unlimited dashes in a stage full of spikes and fireballs. Check the wave screen before it starts.

    Secrets

    Title screen minigame

On the title screen, press the D-pad to take control of the cat floating on its balloon, then steer it up to the top of the screen. The view scrolls up into a hidden minigame where you dodge enemies flying in from every side for as long as possible; A plays a cat sound. Your best time is recorded on a score screen.

Play as the cat or a panda

After clearing Space, press Select on the stage select screen to switch Tobu for the cat. After clearing Dream, press Select again to switch to a panda; once more goes back to Tobu.

    Erase save data menu

On the title screen hold Down + Select + B to open a hidden screen that can erase all progress. Choose with Up / Down, confirm with A, or press B to leave without erasing.
