    Overview

Defuse the bomb in 10 seconds! Click the plug that connects the red explosives.

Ethan Kennerly made 10seconds as a two-day game for Ludum Dare (August 23 to 25, 2013) at themade.org, with sounds from the examples in LabChirp.

His design notes start from the theme, ten seconds before a bomb explodes, and sketch a bomb cutter: observe tiles of wires and cut the wire that connects to a bomb. The notes go on to list the ways a board could get harder: more cells, longer detours, wires running close together in parallel, more corners and more crossings.

    Level up by 3
    Right plug, 6 to 9 s left
    Level up by 2
    Right plug, 3 to 6 s left
    Level up by 1
Right plug, under 3 s left

    Points
    New level x milliseconds left
    Wrong plug or time out
Level down by 5, and the run's score resets
    Higher levels
One more node every 20 levels (2 to 5) and one more bend every 10 (up to 8)
    Top level
    100

    Tips

    1. Speed pays twice: a fast answer raises your level more, and points are your level times the milliseconds left, so the quicker answers at a higher level are worth far more.
    2. At level 0 a slow answer is worth nothing, so make your first few picks quickly to get the level climbing.
    3. Trace the wire from the red explosive rather than from the plugs; the decoy plugs sit on the other nodes and on the wrong sides.
    4. Your level is not reset when a run ends, only cut by 5, so the next run starts on harder boards but with bigger points.
